A Brief Note from the Publisher of Heavy Table
(Nothing ominous - on the contrary, something cheerful and forward-looking)
Dear Subscribers and Readers,
Cheers and hello! It’s a freakin’ gorgeous autumn day here in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My family is making its way through 20 pounds of perfect peaches from BoB’s Produce Ranch, and we couldn’t be happier.
I’m writing to you (briefly) to ask you to consider The Heavy Table’s sister project, THE COOKBOOK TEST.
Over on The Cookbook Test, I read, review, and cook from a new book every Sunday morning like clockwork. Recipes are evaluated, workshopped, and shared (when they’re worth your time) and books are judged firmly but joyfully.
We dip into the newest, glossiest, trendiest books, and the oldest, weirdest, most obscure ones, too. If it’s got recipes, it’s fair game.
If you have room in your life for more food writing, more thoughtful exploration of books and cooking, and more curious, honest, far-ranging curiosity about life, please consider subscribing to The Cookbook Test! This week I’m driving toward 50 paying subscribers, and if we hit that goal, we’re going to keep it going for another year. Perhaps longer! There are a lot of books out there.
And if you’re reading this and thinking about subscribing to support The Heavy Table instead, message me to let me know that this message tipped you over the edge and I’ll count your number toward the Cookbook Test total.
It’s a two-for!
Cheers and thanks to all of you for making this work possible. Get out to an apple orchard this month, if you haven’t yet. Whistling Well Farm is one of the best!
at your service,
James

Matt, totally understandable. So, on Patreon we have $5/month and $10/month subscriptions. $10/month gets you a bonus biweekly newsletter (The Tap.) The Tap is what published the Uptown piece.
First and foremost: the Uptown piece will be available to everyone first thing on Monday.
If you don't want to wait, or you want to back the site and get future editions of the Tap, you can upgrade your Patreon subscription to $10/month (message me to be sure I fix things for you on the Substack end) or you can cancel on Patreon and subscribe on Substack at $10/month.
I'm a bit confused. I've been subscribed since the very beginning of Heavy Table, but I can't read the article about Uptown that came out today (Sept 13) because ... I'm not subscribed enough? How do I subscribe more?
