Hot Five: Call for Community Submissions
We're looking for our readers to help us tell stories of food, drink, and immigration this week.
This week, we’re casting a wider net to tell the story of food and drink in Minnesota’s immigrant communities. If you taste something delicious in a restaurant (or at a food truck, or a marketplace) with immigrant roots, submit a horizontal photo plus a short writeup (1-2 paragraphs) to jrnorton@heavytable.
We’ll run some of the best submissions this Friday; selected submissions will receive $25 via check or Venmo. The deadline is 5pm on Thursday, January 15.
Heavy Table’s mission is to visit, explore, and share the most compelling culinary stories in the Upper Midwest. That means we check out everything from rural supper clubs and North Shore cafes to tea ceremonies at Ethiopian restaurants in Minneapolis and massive bowls of pho on University Avenue in Saint Paul.
Right now we’re living through extraordinary times, and the lives and livelihoods of many people working in the culinary community are directly under threat. We hope that you’ll keeping reading Heavy Table (and other terrific resources including Racket, Minnesota Public Radio, Sahan Journal, the Star Tribune, Longfellow Whatever, and many others) during this crisis.
If you haven’t read our East Lake Street, Lyndale Avenue, Central Avenue, and Green Line Checklists, they’re treasure houses of people, places, and delicious bites.
